JB & Sandy's Recap Blog

2/1/10 MONDAY....

6:00 AM: The Grammy awards were last night, and we have a lot to talk about with all that we saw and heard during the show. The texting while driving ban goes into effect today in Austin.  The grace period is over, and now they are going to start ticketing people if they are caught. MTV’s hit reality show The Jersey Shore will be returning for a second season.  However, they will not be returning to the Jersey Shore, and will be filming the show somewhere else. 6:15 AM:  Alex played in the Harlem Globetrotters game on Friday night at The Frank Erwin Center.  Sandy claims that he’s wanted to do this for years, and that Alex stole his idea.  Sara went to watch the game and snuck in a video camera to tape some of the action.  He played for The Washington Generals, and had some embarrassing moments, but overall he had an absolute blast, and did score 2 points for his team. 6:30 AM: Four things you need to know with Sara. Texans can now play the Powerball lottery.  It’s a new thing in Texas, and the first drawing in which we’d be eligible to win money will be this Wednesday. Some changes are happening on the UT campus, and that means that The Cactus Café will be closing and they are doing away with Informal Classes. 6:45 AM: Grammy Awards recap.  Beyonce won 6 awards last night, which are the most awards won in one night by a female artist.  All of us except for Sara weren’t fans of Taylor Swift’s performance last night.  Kings of Leon won album of the year for “Use Somebody”.  Michael Jackson’s children accepted an award on his behalf, and it was touching. Pink had a very interesting performance, where she did a “cirque-de soliel” style acrobatic performance while singing. They also dipped her half dressed body in water while she was upside down, and she never lip synched! She impressed us very much, and we think that no one ever has an excuse to lip synch again. 7:00 AM:  A couple of weathermen decided it would be a good idea to do a parody of “Pants on the Ground” during their weather report recently.  We found the clip of their version “Snow on the Ground”, and it’s very dorky! 7:10 AM: JB saw a picture on Sandy’s Twitter of his new pet “Vern” and asked him about it. Sandy got two animals he’s hunted mounted for his wall. One was a black buck antelope who has been named Vern.  Sandy also got a fish mounted that he caught at Port Aransas. 7:30 AM: Four things you need to know with Sara. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are now engaged. Also there are rumors that Drew Barrymore and Justin Long are engaged as well. There is a rumor that Billy Idol will replace Steven Tyler in Aerosmith.  MTV’s hit reality show The Jersey Shore will be returning for a second season.  However, they will not be returning to the Jersey Shore, and will be filming the show somewhere else.  7:45 AM: Alex loves to make broad generalizations, and JB wanted to test his theories out on the radio by seeing if Alex is right or wrong.  Alex has said that Hispanic people hate Monty Python, Mr. Bean, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  He hates all of them and just doesn’t “get” why people would like any of these things. 8:00 AM: Sandy’s headlines that didn’t make Sara’s news reports this morning.  How to tell if you dog is truly happy, is when it wags its tail to the left. Willie Nelson’s tour bus was stopped recently and police found marijuana and homemade moonshine on the bus, which is no big surprise to us. A news story has come out saying that “sexting” has become popular with elderly people.  We told Sara to ask Grandma Shook if anyone in her retirement home is “sexting” when she talks to her next. 8:15 AM: We talk to musician Edwin McCain about the closing of The Cactus Café on the UT campus.  He has played gigs there many, many times and is sad to hear this news. He hopes that it can be saved and wonders if musicians will band together to try and save it financially.  8:30 AM: We play Edwin McCain’s new single “Walk with you”.  Four things you need to know with Sara.  Beyonce won 6 awards last night, which are the most awards won in one night by a female artist.  Kings of Leon won album of the year for “Use Somebody”. Bon Jovi was one of the big performers at the Grammy Awards, and they are doing a show in Dallas this year on April 11th. 8:45 AM: Cecily Knobler’s reviews of the movies that came out on Friday.  The Book of Eli was the #1 movie over the weekend. 9:00 am: Free phones—how did you hurt yourself while getting dressed?  Sandy cut his face this morning with the zipper on his sweater, and he looks like he got in a fight. We were teasing him about his “look” this morning because of the cut on his lip and the fact that a viewer of the TV show called in and asked him about what was wrong with his eye. Apparently he has a dry skin spot under his eye, and on TV it looked like he had a black eye.  9:15 AM: Sara went to a local school and asked some 4th graders their opinions on dating. They told her what qualities to look for in a man, and what kind of gifts you should get your significant other. 9:30 AM: Four things you need to know with Sara. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are now engaged. Also there are rumors that Drew Barrymore and Justin Long are engaged as well. There is a rumor that Billy Idol will replace Steven Tyler in Aerosmith.
