Coming in this morning, I was smiling and feeling good coming off a Great Date Night w/ my Honey Ted. We went to see American Idiot- The Musical (based on the multi-Grammy winning Green Day album) at Bass Concert Hall. Here is my first thought about the show last night from my Facebook post to my friend Tracy shortly after the show.
I Loved the way Green Day's album 'American Idiot' came alive on stage last night. It actually gave me an even better appreciation for the album and the songs that are on it. There were little gliches for opening night, but little things that smoothed out quickly. The leads: Johnny/ Jared Nepute, Will/ Casey O'Farrell, Tunny/ Dan Tracy, Heather (GREAT NAME)/ Mariah MacFarlane, Whatsername/ Olivia Puckett, St. Jimmy/ Daniel C. Jackson and The Extraordinary Girl/ Taylor Jones.. these parts were cast perfect. The Ensemble did a Good job... the BAND ROCKED IT TOO! I believed each character these folks portrayed. Many of them are graduates and this is a first touring tour! You wouldn't have guessed that, especially 1/2 way through the production, they all OWNED the stage!
American Idiot was 90 minutes of 'Sweet Chaotic Harmony...' There are so many things going on, you could see this production several times and catch something new and different each time. You seem to pick a favorite character by the end of the production. Or Ted and I did. His favorite was 'St. Jimmy'.. I liked 'Whatsername'!
This is a Great Date Night show to catch... out w/ friends...! There were a group of ladies behind us, that were having a blast! There is harsh language and sexual overtones, so if this offends you.. DON'T GO! It's not a show for young kiddos either. If you are looking for a high energy ride through the ups and downs of life as they happen on stage w/ 3 stories going at the same time... YOU'LL LOVE IT! Of course if you're a Green Day fan.. DEFINITELY GO! American Idiot runs through Sunday 1/19 at Bass Concert Hall!
