AUSTIN (June 25, 2012)—As temperatures reached or topped the century mark for another day in Central Texas and around the state, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas asked consumers to conserve electricity, particularly from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. through the week.
The soaring temperatures mean an increase in demand for power, but ERCOT said it should have capacity to handle the load.
The company expected peak electric demand to exceed 65,000 megawatts Monday and Tuesday.
"For perspective, one MW is enough power to serve about 200 homes during peak demand, and ERCOT's record peak was 68,379 MW on Aug. 3, 2011," ERCOT spokesperson Robbie Searcy said.
Anyone wishing to stay informed can download ERCOT Energy Saver, a new mobile app available for Apple and Android devices.
Users of the free app need to enable push notifications to receive the messages.
ERCOT also provides information through Facebook, Twitter and ERCOT's new subscription-based EmergencyAlerts list.
To reduce demand on the grid during peak demand hours, users can turn their thermostat up two or three degrees when not at home, set pool pumps to run late at night or early in the morning, and avoid using large appliances such as a stove or clothes dryers during the peak hours, ERCOT officials said.

My Daddy Maurice never did the scare tactic, but he was a human resource manager for 30 plus years, so he did more of the human resource nice to meet you kind of intense thing. When I was in high school, I dated guys with long hair. I ended up marrying a long haired guy... my honey Ted. (He recently choppoed off 20 inches of hair to donate to locks of love.) My Daddy loved to ask them, 'Hey do you have to part your hair to take a crap?' First time he ever did that, I was so embarassed, because I had no idea where that came from. I realized that was his tactic. It worked on a few, but my honey Ted thought it was funny. He just answered back," I do need to be careful sir. :)" I knew Ted was a keeper. :) My Daddy was pretty smart helping me find the ' THE KEEPER'. There is method to the Daddy madness, especially when it's backed up with lots of LOVE, support and just being an all around 'SUPER DADDY'!
Thanks Daddy! Love you Tons! Fert... yeah.. Fert is another Daddy thing. Nickname he gave me when I was little... that's another story at another time!!

Are you a fan of the 'Cake Boss'? If so, good yummy news! His cakes will be available in select stores soon! The list of stores is still pending, but you will be able to get some yummy favs of the 'Cake Boss'.
"The line, based on recipes and designs of cakes he's made before, rolls out this summer, starting with the "Badda Bloom" – a two-layer cake, one chocolate and one vanilla, with a layer of fudge and covered in bright green, butter cream frosting with pink and purple flowers. Watch out for all the extra motorcycles on the road this weekend. R.O.T Rally is in town. Expect traffic delays downtown with the parade going on this evening, and street closures through Saturday 3am!
The parade's route at 8 p.m. Friday at the Travis County Exposition Center. Motorcyclists will travel toward downtown Austin on MLK Jr. Boulevard, Webberville Road, Oak Springs Road and East 11th Street. There will be partial road closures Friday along this route.
The parade will continue down Congress Avenue. There will be full road closures on Congress from 6 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday for the rest of the rally.
Don't forget it's a 'No Refusal' weekend! 'No Refusal' initiative starting Friday at 9 p.m. and lasting until 5 a.m. on Sunday. During the initiative police can conduct blood search warrants on suspected drunk drivers who refuse to give a breath or blood test.
