When I first saw the 'Bagel Head' I thought, idea for Halloween. But come to find out this is the hot new trend in Japan. Folks are shooting their forheads with saline to created a 'Bagel Head' look on purpose. I think that trumps the '80s hair crimping trend that's coming back as way SCARY!! National Geographic did a special on them. Anyone up for a 'Bagel Head Party!".. LOL.. I'm not getting this as something cool to do to yourself.
This surprised me with having the sinus head, stuffy/runny nose, sneezing and the frog in the throat effect, depending on the day, the past few weeks that Austin only came in at #47 (42 last year) this year on the Top 100 list of cities with challenging Fall allergies. San Antonio (15) & McAllen Texas (5) both made it in the Top 20.Click here to see the entire list! Bless you a head of time if you feel like sneezing.

Here's one of my favs from the list, not sure being it's #13 if that means anything.

Recent Carrie Underwood show, a 12 year old boy requested his first kiss be from Carrie! That's a big first kiss memory.
My first kiss like this was on my swing set by the neighbor boy Ladd. We were swinging and he surprised me with a kiss on the lips. I was 4. Wow, that's a bit young huh. My first reaction was 'EEEWWW Boy Germs!' Do you remember your first kiss?
The Emmy awards had some unexpected surprises. Top 2, Mad Men being nominated for 17 nominations and not winning ANY.. not 1 Emmy win. That's pretty unexpected and also gets them the top honors for BIGGEST LOSER at the Emmys. Another surprise was the 'Lead Actor in a Comedy Series' category.... Although I'm happy he won, because Jon (Duckie) Rocks!! Click here for the list of winners... you could run into some more surprises!
Of course I gotta whip out this AWESOME FLASHBACK!! DUCKIE ROCKS!!

This story made me think of my Great Grandma LuLu. When I was a little girl I used to play piano for her. She was deaf, so she'd put her hand on the piano and smile while I was playing. She even smiled through the sour notes. In this story, there are kids who are deaf/hard of hearing in the school band playing by feeling the beat. This Rocks..check it out!
Keep an eye out for Brian Scartocci on season 3 of The Voice on 2 nights this season on Mondays & Tuesdays on NBC. Last night he impressed all the judges with his soulful version of Stevie Wonder 'Isn't She Lovely'. I had a chance to chat w/ Brian a bit today to see where his head is while he prepares for his first battle. Brian is very cool! Make sure you show BIG LOVE for our ATX Boy Brian!
More BIG Texas talent came out last night on The Voice w/ Paulina/Sugarland-Dallas (16 years old). She got a spot on Team Christina and is preparing for her first battle. I found out what she did before she sang the first time on The Voice stage, her take on Christina A. and a few more juicy dets... Check it out...
Keep an eye out for these 2 Texas Rising Stars on The Voice on NBC!!
The new Soundgarden album "King Animal" drops on November 13th! Their first studio album 16 years!!! Here's a pretty cool promotional trailer to get ready for the new ear candy. "Been Away Too Long," is set for release September 27th. Will you get it?
I chatted w/ my friend Jen a bit yesterday, and wished her a Happy Rosh Hashanah. My honey Ted ran into the mention of 'Honey Cake' when he was cruising the net. It was a rainy day yesterday, so I checked out a few recipes, and decided to make my first 'Honey Cake'. It turned out pretty tasty. There are many ways to make it, but this is how I did mine.
Honey Cake... if you use organic products, then it's Mama Earth yummy
- Healthier verison- switch out eggs for egg whites and the margarine w/ 8 oz of applesauce of pumpkin
decaf coffee, minus the alcohol.. make it gulten free by using 'Rice Flour'.
Pre-heat the oven to 350
You can bake it in:
-angel food cake pan/ or bundt pan- 50-60 minutes
-9x13 sheet style- 45-55 minutes
-3 8x4 1/2 inch loaf pans-40-45 minutes
Baking time can vary depending on the pan and your oven. When it springs away from the pan when you lightly touch the middle part of it, then it's done. The fork/toothpick test works too!
I used a bundt pan and lined it with parchment foil paper. Make sure you grease the pan, and the parchment part of the linng of the pan..foil part on on face down on the pan. I used Crisco butter spray. I believe the parchment foil paper caused my cake to bake a bit quicker in about 53 minutes in the bundt pan.
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups of flour
1 TB (yes table spoon, if seems like a lot) baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
4 tsps cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp all spice or apple pie spice (what I used) 1 cup of margarine/butter melted (2 sticks) 1 cup Honey (I used Good Flow clover honey) 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs (room temp) 2 tsps vanilla (put in the coffee)
1 cup warm coffee (I used a French press and then added the vanilla to it before I put in mixture) 1/4 cup dark rum ( you can use bourbon/whiskey.. if not alcohol more coffee is suggested)
Cinnamon Chip Honey Glaze:
- 1 cup of cinnamon chips (Hershey's is really good..melt really nicely too) - 1/2 cup of honey
- 3 TBs rum
- water.. used a bit here and there while it was melting to make the glaze a bit thinner. Be careful, or you might have to add more of the chips/honey to make it thicker again.
I didn't use nuts, but you can use chopped walnuts or sliced almonds. you put them on top of the mixture once in the pan and bake.
Directions:
Large bowl: Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices. Make a well in the center and add the melted margarine/butter, honey, sugars, eggs, coffee w/ vanilla and alcohol
-Mix w/ an electric mixer on low until it is all mixed up. Make sure no dry ingredients are sticking to the bottom. The mixture is more runny than normal cake mixture. Pour in the bundt pan. Bake.
-Let cool (on a wire rack if you have one) for about 20 minutes. Take the cake out of the pan, and have it on the serving dish you plan to store the cake. You can add honey for topping or make the glaze I used while the cake was still warm. It gets in the cake and makes it even more tasty.
While the Honey Cake is cooling a bit. Make the yummy glaze. In a small sauce pan melt the cinnamon chips, honey and rum. Add water to make it a bit thinner for the glaze. After the cake has cooled enough to remove it from the pan on the serving plate it will be stored, spoon the glaze over the cake. Let it set for a bit. The glaze will get in the cake..even yummier. Cool Whip is yummy with it. This cake has more of a Gingerbread feel to it. I think a chocolate honey glaze would be yummy too! I may try that next time, since I'm a choc-o-holic.. LOL!
New diet... by Heather Rivera,posted Sep 14 2012 10:38AM
There's a woman that says she lost 85lbs with her Starbuck's Diet. She only ate food that was there. Of course she passed on the sugary, yummy treats and went for their healthier choices... depending on her day and exercise schedule.
Here's an example of what she did..Her Starbucks diet is simple. Hall said she starts her day off with oatmeal and a black coffee (145 calories); her lunch and dinners are either a "bistro box" (a snack pack of cheeses, breads and fruit) or a panini, which would be between 220-460 calories, MSNBC estimated. "If I go on a bike ride, I can come back and have a brownie!" she said. (That's around $16 a day, not including that good behavior $2.25 brownie, according to a Virginia-area Starbucks barista.)
I've been seeing this goofy dance pop up everywhere. Videos going virual trying to get the moves of it's creator 'Psy from Korea'. He was on Ellen yesterday teaching Britney. He said the key is dressing classy and dancing cheesy. Here's another one that is blowing up on YouTube...
I feel like I've seen something like this before??? It's similar w/ the 'Classy Cheesy' thing going on....
Today is... by Heather Rivera,posted Sep 12 2012 10:18AM
'National Encouragement Day' and 'National Chocolate MilkShake Day'. So I encourage you to get a chocolate milkshake or whatever flavor is your fav. This popped in my head this morning, so I thought I would share the ear worm with you! Enjoy!!
Don't ask for one if you don't eat your veggies. In the New York Post there are some parenting rules that Michelle Obama has for 14-year-old Sasha and 11-year-old Malia.
When the girls go on trips, they write reports on what they have seen, even if their school does not require it.
Technology is for weekends. Malia can use her cellphone only then, and she and her sister cannot watch television or use a computer for anything but homework during the week.
Malia and Sasha had to take up two sports: one they chose and one selected by their mother. "I want them to understand what it feels like to do something you don't like and to improve," the first lady has said.
Malia must learn to do laundry before she leaves for college.
The girls have to eat their vegetables, and if they say that they are not hungry, they cannot ask for cookies or chips later. "If you're full, you're full," Mrs. Obama said in an interview with Ladies' Home Journal. "I don't want to see you in the kitchen after that."
I remember where I was on this day 11 years ago. I was living in St. Petersburg, Florida, getting ready for work doing middays at 102.5 The Bone. (Classic Rock station at the time). I was just about done curling my hair, when my now adorable loving hubby, Ted said honey a plane just hit one of the twin towers. I thought I heard him wrong, so I ran in the living room just in time to see a second plane hit the other tower. Unfortunately later we'd find out about another plane crash that was intended for the Pentagon. Both of us where speechless. My stomach, dropped.. I thought I was watching a bad movie. This couldn't be real!!! But unfortunately, it was very PAINFULLY REAL! The aftermath of the crashes brought on many tears, lose of life and the question of WHY??? Which will never be answered in a way that any of us would accept, or at least me. How can some people have so much hatred for others? The one thing it did do for a period of time was unite us to stand together and not let this break us. The U.S. flag was flying high in neighborhoods across America. We were united and helping each other. I wish that part of it would stick on a daily basis. We can make some of that come back by Remembering today and do a Good Deed for another in it's honor. Maybe it will get us all doing 'Good Deeds' on a regular basis.
With this in mind, I wanted to share a poem that I have kept with me and shared for the past 10 years. Dear Abby printed this poem in her column on the 1 year anniversary of the devastation. It was sent to her by Larue and Herb Morrison from Salem, Ohio. Their granddaughter, Christine Morrison, who was in the 4th grade, watched the tragedy unfold on tv with the Twin Towers collapsing into heaps of dust, as most of us did. She went to her bedroom and wrote this poem. She shared it with her 4th grade class and her teacher thought it was so special she sent a copy to President Bush. Christine received a very special letter from Mrs. Bush thanking her for the poem.
I typed it exactly like my copy....
