Went to the screening of 'Divergent'. It's based on the book 'Divergent' by Veronica Roth. It's the first of 3 books, which I hear they are in production w/ #2 Insurgent (out March 2015) w/ #3 on the way 'Alligiant'. The movie is 2 1/2 hours long, and did seem like it. Although it was entertaining, it wasn't near the GREAT STORY portrayed in the book. I realize movies can't do everything like the book, or we'd be sitting in the theater a lot longer than 2 1/2 hours. What it didn't do for me, like the book mostly certainly does, was Great character developement. There wasn't much of that w/ the characters interacting w/ Tris & Four, unlike the book. My man Ted, who also read the book, he summed it up as there wasn't enough character development through the movie, so he didn't feel invested in them.
I also noticed they made the characters look much more Hollywood, then what was described in the book. Shailene Woodley as 'Beatrice/Tris' didn't look very worn for wear after a fighting match w/ Peter. Everyone seemed to heal quickly from their battle wounds.... Very Pretty! I understand you don't have to show to much gore, but I do think if they would have stuck to more of the look described in the book, Tris's' journey and her growing strength could have had a lot more impact.
I thought Shailene as Tris was a good fit, and Theo James pulled off Four nicely too! Kate Winslet did a nice job as Jeanine Matthews/Erudite faction, but her character took an odd change towards the end of the movie, I didn't remember that happen in the book, which could affect how movie #2 would kick off. Ted & I noticed that there were several changes/differences w/ characters or adding characters that we didn't remember from the book. Maybe if that wasn't going on, more development of the characters that surround Tris & Four would have been stronger!
All in all, the movie was 'ALRIGHT'. It's out this Friday (3/12)
