Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel went out and bought some new prison jumpsuits for the inmates at his Michigan jail to replace the traditional orange ones of the past.
They’ve got black and white horizontal stripes. It’s because the sheriff noted the people are now wearing orange jumpsuits “out at the mall or in public,” and he doesn’t want his inmates confused with the general population.
The fashion trend, according to the sheriff, is because of the popularity of shows like Orange Is The New Black. “Some people think it’s cool to look like an inmate,” he said.
So now the inmates at the Saginaw County Jail look a lot like the guy on the Get Out of Jail Free card in Monopoly.
