Puppy Mill Awareness Day announces its fourth annual event in Austin.  The 2013 Puppy Mill Awareness Day will commemorate animals that have been rescued and create awareness of the thousands of animals that are abused and neglected in puppy mills throughout the nation.  While creating awareness for the cause, the event will feature entertainment with live performance from local musicians, appearances from national celebrities, as well as provide animal adoptions from several local animal rescue organizations and shelters.

Courtney Leigh, founder of Puppy Mill Awareness Day – TX.  “As Austin grows as a Pet-friendly city, it is important that we shed light and create awareness about the consequences of puppy mills right here in Texas.  The event will provide a day full of fun entertainment for every member of the family, all while supporting a great cause.”

Puppy Mill Awareness Day will feature live music from one of the nation’s premier mashup bands,
More Cowbell, The Bare Feat and local singer and songwriter Russell Mayes. Famous drummer from the band Poison, Rikki Rockett, and Gina Miller, the puppy mill campaign manager from the ASPCA will be guest speakers at the event.  In addition, the event will feature the annual Puppy Mill Survivor Parade, in which animals who were rescued from puppy mills march triumphantly through the crowds, as well as a performance from Karma, the flying Pit Bull and an agility training demonstrations from differently abled dogs (blind & deaf).

A VIP reception and auction be held prior to the event, on September 21st at 7pm at Shoal Crossing Event Center.  The reception will feature a silent auction with many of Austin’s entertainment, restaurants and lodging as well as a live art auction with paintings which have been created by the actual puppy mill survivors.  Tickets to the VIP reception are $40 or two for $75 and can be purchased online at
The fourth annual Puppy Mill Awareness Day will take place on September 22 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Fiesta Gardens, located at 2101 Jesse E. Segovia St.  For more information on the 2013 Puppy Mill Awareness Day please visit
