Sara Movie Review: Margin Call

A 24 hour look inside an investment firm making deals and selling souls early in the 2008 financial crisis.

Expectations going in:

Kevin Spacy, Demi Moore, Simon Baker, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci, and Paul Bettany all star in a movie I have not seen a single trailer for. With a cast like that I expected a pleasant surprise.

My take:

This movie is not fireworks and drama, it is a straight forward look into the financial crisis. It almost feels as if you are watching a documentary. This movie is “inspired by a true story,” but I am curious as to how much is based in fact vs. speculation. I enjoyed it very much as I feel like I learned something from it, and it triggered an engaging conversation with my friend about perspectives, money and greed.

Look out for:

·      Pen Badgley - Best known for his role on Gossip Girl as Dan…Pen is lovingly obnoxious in this film as an over paid 20 something.

·      Zachary Quinto’s eyebrows – Seriously he has the most perfect eyebrows ever. He is also a great actor that I enjoyed very much in his time on the tv show Heros.

You will like it if:

1.    You are mad at the financial state we live in
2.    You are a fan of Simon Baker and his face in general
3.    You want to see a thought provoking movie where you might learn something

Would I go with my mom:

Yes. This is a movie my father would love to.

Good date movie?

I say yes…as I went on a date to see this movie. It isn’t romantic or anything, but it might spark an interesting conversation after.

Will I buy it?

No need. Not a movie I need to see over and over and over.

Bring on the perfect cast
There are certain actors that are fantastic and then you put them all in a movie together and how could I resist seeing the film. I was just discussing the idea of having the perfectly cast film on my blog and we got into a pretty good conversation about it. I have the honor of maintaining a film blog but it takes a lot of research that I love but I travel so I had to evaluate my entertainment service to get the technology I require. Once again we have a blog for the masses with a bunch of computer graphical editing. Loaded with creative creatures from mythical Greek lore but from what I’ve heard not exactly the way they should be portrayed. I love history regardless of whether it’s history or legend due to the feelings that come to the surface whenever I’m learning or experiencing brain food. I need a good source of entertainment but not just for enjoyment but for research purposes due top the film blog I maintain. I’m very passionate about it but I travel a lot for work. After relocating I made the decision to revaluate where I could get the most technology and save more money to get it as our economy is being felt by all. It was a bit shocking that Comcast limits and doesn’t offering 100% digital programming. International channels are also limited and they don’t offer HD free for life. This will not do! Now I did find Dish Network offers more programming and movie channels for far less money plus a free Sling Adapter, which happens to fit my travel needs as I bring my services with me wherever I go. I ended up changing jobs and started working for Dish Network, still traveling but more frequently but armed with tools. With the new Blockbuster Movie Pass, which simply means Welcome Live Streaming and so many TV and movie options, I’m set! Now I am clear that whatever makes it easiest to work on my hobby while traveling and get great entertainment at an affordable price is what is necessary. It is important to me that there is happiness in my life and those counting on me. It’s interesting what you find when you actually take a minute and look around at the options available. I’m looking forward to seeing the Immortals, as it looks entertaining and researching Greek mythology as I find that fascinating.
