Dust of September

I've held on to this poem since September 11, 2001 happened. It was written by a Christine Morrison, a 4th grader at the time. She sent it to President Bush, and received a special letter of thanks from 1st Lady Barbara Bush for sharing it. Dear Abby published it.

It amazes me each year I read it, how someone so young at the time was able to express the impact of September 11th. It still stands true...

The Dust of September
The dust, the smoke, the clouds
from the dust of September.

The sadness, the sorrow, the darkness
from the dust of September.

The pretty sites are gone, the love, the death
from the dust of September.

The families, the lives taken away
from the dust of September

Our country is sad, but our country still stands
from the dust of September.

Our flag still waves
through the dust of September.

We will never break, we will stand together
through the dust of September.

People hurt, hearts broken, but we survive
in the dust of September.

May we remember those who lost their lives on this day, September 11th... 13 years ago! Be thankful for each moment you can spend w/ your loved ones. Try your best each day to be nice to each other. Be a proud American showing your courage, strength and compassion! Wave those flags high!

Keep Your Guys Healthy...

September is Prostate Awareness Month, which is great. But just saying that and having no action is another. I have found w/ the men in my life from my Daddy ( R.I.P) , my Hubby Ted, his Dad... pretty much every man in my life has to be nagged to go to the doctor when they aren't feeling well. So forget about a checkup just to do it. Well, that's not the attitude to take, especially when it comes to health and well being. As much as it sounds like a cliche, but it's very true, early detection of just about anything /everything involving your health certainly does help when it comes to the battle for your good health.

The thought is if I go they will find something wrong, which of course everyone worries about. But this also is where the detect whatever it is early so you can fight it fits in, and hopefully beat it. I have noticed the men in my life certainly make sure I go to the doctor if I'm not feeling well. They also need to put some of that attention on themselves.

So Guys who do this... Please think about the Loved ones in your lives next time they ask if you would please get a check up. Get your prostate checked.. a physical.. They are thinking about you, your health and well being. But they are also thinking about themselves. Sorry if it seems selfish that they want you to take care of yourself for them, because they want you around. Whatever motivates you to take better care of yourself is for the better.

I'm practicing what I preach. I have my yearly check up today and Mammogram tomorrow! I wish everyone better health and happiness! Please take care so you can be around as long as you can w/ those who Love you! The BEST part of life is being w/ the ones you Love.

The same goes for ladies who do this! Take care of yourself. There's only one you, so take care of you!

An M-Day Smile...

Football wasn't the best for us this weekend. Longhorns had some Big issues.. Cowboys... and my Chicago Bears too. (Losing to Buffalo... UUGGG). Anyway, this morning I wasn't going to have the losing team blues for M-Day. I whipped out some Cheesey hair band music I ran across last night going through my ear candy collection. Anyone remember this one...
It's really good when you're stuck in traffic.. crank it up.. sing off key! ENJOY! Do be prepared to get weird looks from others stuck in traffic, but at least I was smiling and being all grumpy stressed out!

TGIF!

Did it seem like a LONG week even if you had Monday off? If you're feeling that way, this one's for you. It popped in my head for some reason, but it fits. Have a Happy & Safe weekend coming.

Have Faith...

Have you ever noticed that most of the news seems to be Bad News? But there are actually 'Good Things' that happen because people are helping each other, rather than hurting. I noticed this headline, and to be honest I clicked it becauses it said something happening at Walmart. Not sure why Walmart was my trigger. It couldn't be because I go to the one off Brodie & 290 at least once a week. Wen I clicked the story, it was a pleasant surprise. A woman and her baby are alive and doing great. Thanks to 2 people at a Walmart who stopped and helped her when she was having a seizure in the middleo of a Walmart isle. She reunited w/ them over the weekend to say thanks. She was losing Faith in Humankind before this happened to her. Story here! T

This happened a an Ohio Walmart, but it could happen anywhere. The question is... Do you still have 'Faith in Humankind?' Read this story to feel better about people, and strive to be a better person to others. Sounds good in theory, and putting it in action are two different things. Good luck!
