Well I just got back from taping #2 for the X Factor in Austin, TX. It was the first day we got to see Britney Spears and Demi Lovato at the judge’s table!!!
Simon and L.A. were awesome walking the crowd during breaks. Demi Lovato was awesome. Not only did she look adorable, but that girl is spunky! She quickly accepted the role of “Simon teaser” throwing lovable jabs at him every chance she got. She was on her game and I loved it!
BUT…I know all you really want to know is, how was Miss Britney Spears.
Let me begin by saying, I LOVE Britney Spears. Love her or hate her Britney Spears is a powerful force in pop music, and she deserves a seat on that judges table. Now that that is out there…here were my thoughts.
I just realized that this is really the first platform we will ever get to see Britney really speak. After watching her first night all I can say is, it is so interesting how a girl who can rock music videos, awards shows, and concert tours…just isn’t comfortable speaking freely in front of a large audience. It just isn’t her thing. (And who am I to judge...there is no way I could do what she does)
Britney was THE main attraction of tonight’s X Factor taping, the audience wanted her there. I stared at her most of the night (creepy…I know), and I loved that she seemed to be having a genuinely GREAT time watching the show. However, when it came time for her to speak…she just appeared to be a very shy deer in headlights. Time and time again, Simon had to coax her to give a simple yes or no answer. Most of the time Britney sat so far from the mic the audience could barely hear her!
At one point the crowd turned on Britney. After an obviously horrendous audition, Britney still tried to praise the singer. At this point the audience booed and Britney looked upset. Simon and LA quickly jumped to her rescue and scolded the audience for their candor. I really thought Britney was going to cry.
Towards the end, after what looked like some coaching from producers, Britney started come out of her shell a teeny tiny bit. And finally during one of the final groups, Britney got on her feet and began to dance.
That was the Britney we wanted to see…and we LOVED it!
Overall the night was a total blast and I can't wait for the season!!!
Final observation: Britney Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph and her fiancé Jason Trawick were literally 20 feet from her during the whole taping. They were constantly talking with Simon and producers. I tried to be a lip reader, but failed.
Final thought: I want Britney to succeed on this show, obviously there will be somewhat of a learning curve, but I am scared Brit is going to be ripped apart when this show goes primetime. I could just feel the audience rolling their eyes at her critiques. Calling a performance “mystical,” “magical,” or "like a dream"…well it is just weird.
