Help support Mix 94.7's Jay Styles in his courage walk to raise money for Wounded Warriors and soldiers battling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Jay will be walking 20 miles a day for 5 days totaling 100 miles July 28th-August 1st! He hopes to raise at least $20,000!
Why $20,000? Below are two quick facts in regards to PTSD.

- The cost-per-case basis, the estimated two-year cost for each case of PTSD alone ranges from $5,900 to $10,300; for each case of major depression alone, from $15,460 to $25,760; and for each case of comorbid PTSD and major depression, from $12,430 to $16,890.

The "Courage Walk" is quickly approaching... I cannot believe my "passion" will come to fruition in just 4 days! While clearly my passion for the Military and my own personal battle with depression are the foundation behind the "Courage Walk." I firmly believe… in our lives we MUST step outside of our comfort zone and test the limits of our mental, physical, and soul within. The following passage has meant a great deal to me in bringing clearity to my life. I hope it helps you just the same!
"Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty."

We're 1 week away! I cannot believe I am on the edge of fulfilling a dream of mine several years in the making! THANK YOU SO MUCH.. AGAIN.. to every business and listener who has donated their time and/or money to aid our Military Vets! They need us now more than ever!
I was in the Denton over the weekend with family... BUT... I managed to escape in the early hours to get some walking in! One question that kept coming up over the weekend... "Are you nervous?!" ... CLEARLY.. Anytime you take on something of this magnitude of course you will be slightly nervous of how it will go... BUT... Like I said in an earlier diary... I am not nervous about the physical or the outcome of the monetary goals... All I can control is actually doing the walk and hope that all else falls into place. If it falls short.... at least I did it, and maybe... just maybe I impacted one person battling PTSD or another form of depression for them to see that life is GREAT!!!
First off..................... THANK YOU... From the bottom of my heart for every local Austin business and MIX 94.7 listener who has helped donate their time and money to a cause that I am so passionate about... DEPRESSION and more specifically PTSD! When I first birthed this idea the constant question I would hear from those close to me is... "Are you ready to open about depression?!"... Without hesitation I said "YES!" For me this is a no brainer. PTSD needs to be combated. I am so humbled to be a voice in this fight!
Right now we're 9 days away from the walk and I cannot tell you how PUMPED I am! This weekend I will be spending time with my family in Denton, TX... BUT... They're well aware that I will be up and out the door at 5am on Saturday and Sunday walking and training. Oh, and one more question that has been thrown my way... "What if something happens to you on the walk?"... My answer is simple... I WILL FINISH NO MATTER WHAT!!!!! Rain or shine... Injured or healthy... One way or another I WILL FIND A WAY!!!!!!!!!
My goal is to raise $20,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project for all that they do for vets and specifically for how they combat PTSD! To donate please click HERE!

The donations have been outstanding so far and we're still 2 weeks away from the actual walk! More importantly the message is being heard. I have ran into so many listeners who have said how GREAT this is and how they were personally affected by depression or PTSD. Please help spread the word and let's combat PTSD inflicting our military vets!
Special thanks to MIX superstar Phillip Phillips for his endoresement in the Courage Walk!! You to can help by clicking HERE!
THANK YOU to everyone who has donated their time and resources to this journey. I am beyond humbled! I have been looking forward to the weekend of late because that is when I can get the most walking in. Working 8 to 12 hour days makes it somewhat challenging to get the amount of training I would ideally like to be doing. So, this weekend when you're traveling down 360 and see a tall guy wearing Army boots... beep your horn and wave! Have a great weekend, you deserve it! -- Jay Styles
Also, I want to thank "Us The Duo" for their support with the MIX 94.7 and Jay Styles Courage Walk. They are the first artist's to sign a recording contract from VINE! They will be performing in Austin on July 31st at Emo's. Get your tickets HERE.
I have been reading articles all morning about Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is not a trendy phenomenon that has just come to light. PTSD has impacted our WWII and Vietnam vets just the same. However, scientists are predicting a "flood" of PTSD cases in the months and years to come. More alarming and sad is that the VA and the rest of the Government are not ready for this "flood!" To read more on this please click HERE
That is why the "Courage Walk" in partenership with the Wounded Warrior Project is so vital! Please HELP us combat this awful epedimic and ensure at least a better future for our men and women in the military! Click HERE to donate today!
Walking 20 miles a day for 5 straight days will be no "walk in the park!' That is why the generosity of local businesses in around Austin helping me better ensure I get through the walk safely has been so important. I have to thank Ralph Tilney and Troy Halvorson over at Foot Solutions of Austin, Inc for donating foot insoles to help make the walk easier on my feet.
Make it a great day, you deserve it! -- Jay Styles
I am into a full month of training twice a week with Dustin at NorthSide Fitness in Cedar Park. He has been so fantastic in helping donate his time to get me shape for the walk. I will say this.. without a doubt DIET is everything when trying to get in shape. I felt it this morning since I have fallen off the wagon some of late. Overall it's been a good day so far with your support and donations are already starting to pour in. THANK YOU so much for that. Even our MIX superstars are helping lend their support for the cause like Mary Lambert! See her awesome message below. Thank you for all your support in my journey to help our vets with PTSD! I cannot wait for July 28th!!! -- Jay Styles
Hi everyone and welcome to my first diary entry. This walk has been a goal of mine for the past few years and I am humbled by the effort of the entire Entercom Austin team that we can finally execute it. The mission is simple. Raise awareness for depression, and more specifically, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) within Military men and women. Why the walk? The walk is to demonstrate the ability that someone who battles any form of depression can still achieve anything. The goal? To raise awareness and money with the Wounded Warrior Project for our courageous men and women battling for our freedoms who are fighting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and help them combat this world wide epidemic. I cannot do this walk without you! I hope that you will help me in the fight against depression and PTSD! Thank you! - Jay Styles
