BookSpring 2010 Read-A-Thon

BookSpring believes no child should grow up without books. Participate in the BookSpring Read-A-Thon from January 25-Feb. 6, 2010. Participants read for two weeks and collect pledges for each page read.  Read, collect pledges and help place books into the hands of Austin children who need them most. Proceeds stay in the Greater Austin area to support BookSpring early literacy programs.  Visit www.bookspring.org to learn more and for registration.

Why participate?
For the children - For every year a child is read to, the average lifetime earnings increase by $50,000.

For the families - While in middle income neighborhoods the ratio of books per child is 13 to 1, in low income neighborhoods the ratio is 1 age appropriate book for every 300 children.

For the community - The U.S Department of Education expects the literacy gap in America will produce a shortage of 12 million qualified workers in the next decade

A little goes a long way
